ΓÇóΓÇóΓÇó Debbie Iwatate GEnie: "K.IWATATE" CLICK ON THE "INFO BALLOON"ΓÇª TOP LEFT OF THIS CARDΓÇª for Work Station┬⌐ info "VIEW CARD LIST/MOVE TO CARD" BUTTONΓÇª This is the "stack" of cards button in the lower left corner of the screen. Click to view a list of all the cards in the Work Station┬⌐ stack. Double click on the title that you want to move to, or select and "open" with the CARD button. This button is used to "get around" when you have a large number of cards in the stack. With only a few cards you can use navigation arrows or the Quik Access buttons. "WORK STATION┬⌐" BUTTONΓÇª Click on this button (only showing when you are on the Main Card) with the option key down and you can proceed to paste the Work Station┬⌐ button/icon into your Home Stack. A dialog box will prompt you. Click to see a short info box about Work Station┬⌐ contributors. "CARD AND BUTTONS TASKS" BUTTONΓÇª Click on the button, hold down the mouse button and slide over to the PopUpMenu to make your selection. Let go of the mouse button over the selected item. "QUIK ACCESS" BUTTONSΓÇª The buttons (spaces for buttons) at the very top of the screen, are for providing access to your most used cards. Create these buttons by selecting the "Quik Button" option under the "Card and Button Tasks" PopUpMenu. These buttons are created in the background and will appear on every card. "DA" BUTTONSΓÇª The buttons in the second row from the top of the screen are for providing access to your most used Desk Accessories. Create these buttons by selecting the Desk Accessory" option under the "Card and Button Tasks" PopUpMenu. These buttons are created in the background and will appear on every card. After you select "Desk Accessory" you will be presented with a standard dialog box that shows all of the DAs in your system. Either double click on the one you want or select and open (thanks to Aron Roberts for the XFCN/XCMD utility). DA buttons have an added segment of script that brings up the menu bar and toggles the show menu/hide menu button (lower left of the card). This is because so many DAs need to have access to the menu bar to operate. If you find that a DA doesn't need the menu bar, you may want to change the DA button script by deleting the lines that "show menuBar" and "show bkgnd button id 40". APPLICATION BUTTONSΓÇª These buttons will launch applications with a single click of the mouse. Select Application" from the "Card and Button Tasks" and follow the dialog box instructions. Select a program in typical Mac fashion, a button will appear on the card that you start on. The button will be in the foreground. If you want the button to appear on all cards in the stack, cut button, go to the background level, and paste the button where you want it. DELETING APPLICATION BUTTONSΓÇª These buttons are "special" from all other buttons created in Work Station┬⌐. They have a script that allows you to dispose of them by clicking on them WITH THE COMMAND KEY DOWN. You will NOT get any prompts during this functionΓÇªthe button will be removed, and, it's associated icon will be purged from the ICON resource. This means that the icon will not be available to other buttons of the same type elsewhere in the stack! SoΓÇªthe good news is, you won't have to worry about the icons piling up in the Work Station┬⌐ ICON resource file. The bad news is, you must pay attention when deleting these buttons if you don't delete the icon from another button, for the same applicaton, elsewhere in the stack (Big deal! You can just put the button back again!) If you just want to delete a button without worrying about the ICON resource, just "Cut Button" or use Command-X. That's the way you'll get rid of all the other buttons! "DOCUMENT" BUTTONSΓÇª These buttons will launch both the document or file that you want and the application that runs them. Select "DocumentΓÇª" option within the "Card and Button Task" menu and respond to the dialog boxes. The first prompt will be for the application that your document requires, the second will be for you to find and select your document. These buttons CANNOT be deleted by command-click, as the Application buttons! HYPERCARDΓäó "STACK" BUTTONSΓÇª By selecting the "stack" option in the "Card and Button Task" menu, you can be prompted through a sequence that selects a stack, assigns it an icon (or none) and places the button on the cardΓÇªjust follow the instructions in the Message Box! If you want a special ICON for you stack button, you can move it into Work Station┬⌐ or HyperCardΓäó with ResEdit or an icon utility program, DA or FKEY. "DELETE CARD" AND "ADD CARD"ΓÇª Select these option in the "Card and Button Task" menu and follow the prompts. Very "painless" and Work Station┬⌐ even takes care of the stack housekeeping chores! "TEA CUP" ICON, WHEN YOU ARE READY TO QUIT!ΓÇª Click here when you want to QUIT HyperCardΓäó and return to the FINDER, or when you want to SHUTDOWN the computer. The dialog box will ask for your choice. I have left a "shadow script" for the playing of David Rakowski's "Sledgeflute" sound when you quit HyperCard from this button...this is one of his many GREAT sounds and suits this button perfectly. Find that SND resource, load it into either your HyperCardΓäó or Work Station┬⌐ stack, take the ROM "hyphens" out of the button script and enjoy a great sound as you close up shop for the day! Clicking on the "Tea Cup" with the option key down will allow you to RESTART the computer... you will be prompted for this task. "OTHER STACK" BUTTONΓÇª This is just a short-cut, fancy version of the menu item, Open Stack. "ROCKET" BUTTONΓÇª A transfer button that allows you to launch into any other program in your system directly from the Work Station┬⌐ environment. Select the program in typical Mac fashion. CURRENT DATE will be automatically installed by Work Station┬⌐, into the upper right corner of the cards. HIDDEN BUTTONΓÇª Their is a hidden button covering the card title field, lower center. Click in that area to move back to the Main Card. TIPSΓÇª Put your most used Application and Document buttons on the first (Main) card, where you can get at them at the start of the stack. Put buttons that you want to see on every card into the background and locate them across the bottom of the card (in the dark framed box area). You don't have to keep icons with all of your application or document buttons. You can also double click on a selected button (with the button tool activated), go to the icon file, click NONE, and leave just the button title. This will allow you to fill a single card with over a hundred buttons for different, frequently used, documents or programs! You can also, bring the DA buttons down onto the main body of your cards, provide them with a distinctive icon, and make them appear like all the other application buttons. If you want to have them show up on only one card, don't forget to "bring them into the foreground". You can "turn off" the name of the button and the icon for the button (and the hilite), to create a "secret" button, for a document or application that you don't want others to see on the card. PHONE LIST... DeMars, S. Maller, Dewi Williams, Aron Roberts and James L. Paul we have access to some very useful XCMDs and XFCNs. The application and document launch button makers and James Pauls "scrolling field" dialog box and "DoList" XCMD, all help to make HyperCard "finders", like Work Station┬⌐, highly functional. Aron Roberts has produced a very elegant DA launching XCMD, Pete Vaziri helped me with the MultiFinder compatibility scriptingΓÇª thanks! Many thanks to James L. Paul, who patiently put up with my requests for help trying to chase down the bug in the original GetAppIcon and GetDocIcon XFCNs. In doing so James came up with the UpdateResFork XCMD, he also put together the KillResID XCMD, that clears an application's icon from the resource file when the button is deleted.
